Three subcategories, three different bars
EB-3 is not one thing:
- Professionals — a U.S. bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent, and the degree must be the normal requirement for the role.
- Skilled workers — at least two years of training or work experience, not of a temporary or seasonal nature.
- Other workers — under two years of training or experience. This subcategory has the longest waits by a wide margin.
EB-2 or EB-3?
It is not always a choice, and it is not always obvious which is faster. The category is determined by what the job actually requires, not by what the person has — someone with a master's degree in a role that requires only a bachelor's belongs in EB-3.
Visa bulletin movement sometimes makes EB-3 faster than EB-2 for the same country of birth, and sometimes the reverse. That is worth checking at the time, not assuming from an old article.
